Girlboss Foundation History In 2006, Sophia Amoruso was a 22-year-old young woman hoping to earn a few extra bucks selling vintage clothes on her eBay store. This store, named Nasty Gal Vintage, quickly took off as the growing demand for vintage clothing increased its revenue from a few dollars per item to over a thousand in some cases. When this online store grew into its own $250 million business, it went through ups and downs that Amoruso could not have foreseen. Although Amoruso stepped down as CEO of Nasty Gal Vintage in 2015 and the company officially filed for bankruptcy in 2016, Amoruso's business career was far from over. Amid these setbacks, she published her book, Girlboss, in 2014. This bestselling memoir inspired young female entrepreneurs across the country and led to the creation of the Girlboss Foundation. Who Can Apply Gilrboss Foundation Grant? The grants offered by the Girlboss Foundation are exclusive to women business owners in the fields of design, music, fashion, music and the arts. For a person to be eligible for grants, they must identify as female, be able to prove US residency, and be 18 years of age or older at the end of the submission period. The ideal candidate for these grants must be creative and innovative in their field and show that they have a blueprint for their business. How The Girlboss Foundation Has Helped Women? From 2014 to 2019, the Girlboss Foundation offered semi-annual grants of $15,000 to small businesses in need of funding. In total, the Foundation has donated $130,000 over five years.
